3 ideas for breaky that take less than 3 minutes

It’s that time of year when we’re all running out the door in the morning, still pulling our clothes on, checking we have our phone/wallet/assignment/lunch, with a thousand things on our to-do list and horrifyingly (I hope you’re sitting down for this) a breakfast-free stomach.

That’s right, in these crazy time of exams, final assessments, full time work, end of year events and everything else going on in our busy lives, the most important meal of the day can often find itself falling by the wayside.

So BEHOLD, my fav three breaky ideas that can be whipped up in under three minutes.

1. Protein Shake – 1:30 minutes to make

I know this sounds a bit wanky but protein shakes are excellent for those who have been good enough to jump out of bed early and go for a workout, but, consequently, are only left with a few minutes to get out the door because of it. Find a shake that suits your needs (low carb for girls, muscle building for boys, or whatever you like), and pop a scoop into a milkshake mixer with 2 tablespoons of Jalna no added sugar yohgurt, 150mls of skim milk and a squeeze of honey. Whiz it up, pour it into a travel mug and out the door you go.

2. Avocado and Tomato on Toast – 2:45 minutes to make

Really, do I even need to explain this one? Bread in toaster. Slice tomato. Avo on toast. Tomato on top. Salt and Pepper. Wrap it up. Get to class.

3. Instant Porridge – 90 seconds to make (according to Uncle Toby)

I have the Uncle Toby’s ones but I’m sure there’s other brands. Again, this one is really self-explanitory. Pop the sachet oats in a microwavable container (ideally, one you can take on the train/in the car with you), asd milk or water and stir, and into the mirco for 90 seconds. A drizzle of honey for good measure and you’re off!

So tell me, what are the three minute wonders that get you out the door on time?

  1. Such a helpful blog! I’m one of those people who often struggle to find time for breakfast in the morning, and more than often end up regretting it an hour later when I am stuck at uni or work. Will definitely be trying your protein shake idea. I find that muesli bars are a great quick fix, at least for a little while. They might not be the most nutritious option but are still pretty helpful!

    • Yes I definitely always keep a muesli bar and a couple of pieces of fruit handy! I have to admit though, I’d need something a little more substantial for breaky 🙂

  2. These brekky ideas seem FANTASTIC! So relatable to uni students especially during this time! Just a tip for those who are always running extra late! protein powder with a couple of teaspoons of instant oats is the best! Mix with water or milk and you’re done! can even have it as you’re running out the door! 🙂

  3. I never leave without breakfast or I will not last long at all! I ussually have a slice of wholewheat toast or half a whoemeal english muffie with natural peanut butter or a protein shake. I found the protein powder that I have doesn’t need anything added to it as it has a nice vanilla flavour so I just mix with water. Avvo and tom on toast sounds pretty good too!

    • hmm I’m yet to try just protein powder and water but I’m sure it must be better calories wise than milk! looks like i’ll be trying a new blend tomorrow morning 🙂
